Influenza is a serious and highly contagious disease which casues around 18,000 Australians to be hospitalised each year.
People at risk of serious illness and hospitalisation are:
- Everyone who is 65 years of age and over
- Any person with a condition predisposing them to severe influenza illness that requires regular medical follow up such as:
- Heart disease
- Lung disease
- Impaired immunity
Influenza is most common during the colder months. The vaccine doesn not contain any live viruses and therefore cannot cause the illness. It is important to have an influenza vaccine each year because the virus changes from year to year and immunity lasts only one year.
Free vaccination is available for
- Everyone 65 years of age and over
- Any adult with a chronic medical condition
During March and April every year, we offer bulk billed clinics at both our medical centres. Please call us to book your appointment
